Where are the Kenyan men dating these volleyball queens? [Photos]

The Kenya women’s volleyball team has won the hearts of many with their exemplary performance, but not the hearts of Kenyan men.

Kenyan men are not always as brave in matters relationship. They would rather go to war than tell a woman they love her. That seems to be the general consensus among the girls who lifted the country’s first ever global trophy, the coveted FIVB World Grand Prix in 2015.

Malkia strikers have conquered Africa. They are feared in Egypt, Cameroon, Senegal, Botswana and in the neighbouring countries of Uganda, Tanzania and Rwanda.

Yet, despite the accolades, it seems like Kenyan men are not taking note. Are men scared of gathering enough courage to ingiza these hot princesses kwa box? The Nairobian spoke to some of these sexy athletes:

Name: Triza Atuka

Position: Centre-blocker

Club: Kenya Pipeline

She is tall, dark and beautiful. Atuka spent the better part of 2018 advertising her ‘singlehood’ to her more than 10,000 Facebook followers. One lucky ninja, a scribe from the coast, reportedly applied for the vacant post and his papers were reportedly accepted, but he never lasted in the job.

According to sources, the relationship ended even before the honeymoon begun. Since then, she has taken a low profile. She told The Nairobian that, “I am single. There is no harm in trying your luck.”

Name: Evelyn Makuto

Position: Right attacker

She comes from a gifted family with sporting genes. All her siblings, from the now retired Asha who played for Kenya Pipeline, Violet (KCB), Luke (Equity Bank), Elphas (Kenya Prisons) and Douglas, are volleyball players.

At 29, Evelyn is reported to be in bad terms with one of her senior coaches after the tactician joked during a training session late last season that it was time for the hard-hitting attacker to get a partner, that’s according to grapevine within the volleyball circle.

She told The Nairobian that she is single and very comfortable. Evelyn has been a consistent feature in both the national and Kenyan Prisons squads and she is not seeing anyone.

Name: Edith Wisa

Position: Centre

Edith is ever quiet. She is not that generous with words. Striking a conversation with her is anything, but easy. But for those who know her well, the former Lugulu Girls and Mount Kenya University student is one lovely character. The Kenya Prisons constable is still single.

Name: Mercy Moim

Club: Supreme Volleyball, Thailand

If you need Kenyan love with a touch of Thai and French fineness, then Mercy Moim is the chick. The Malkia Strikers captain is the ‘de facto queen of the court’. She is a single mother with a child from a previous relationship. Mama Kibet has a sexy athletic shape and a big smile. When contacted by The Nairobian, Moim did not want to confirm or deny anything, preferring to keep her private life just that, private.

“Ask me anything about volleyball but not my private life. I am not going to share my private life with everybody,” she said.

Position: Setter Anse Royale

It is easier penning her volleyball journey from Majengo Slums in Nyeri to Tetu High School, then to Kenya Pipeline, Kenya Prisons all the way to France (Chamalieres) and back to Africa with Seychelles outfit Anse Royale. Gifted with talent and beauty, the 33-year-old Kenyan Prisons Service senior sergeant has dominated the volleyball scene since her debut in 2006.

Though she comes out openly and says she is in a relationship, Wacu has kept things away from the media. When contacted, Wacu who is not in the country, told The Nairobian that she is happily seeing someone though she did not want to give too much information.

“I am dating a very good Kenyan man,” she said.

There were reports last year that Janet Wanja had separated with her Italian boyfriend, Giulio Calauti, the man who swept her off her feet after breaking up with her British husband Andrew Swearaman. She says she prefers odieros to miros.
