Why Kabras Sugar lost sweetness to KCB team

Kabras Sugar head coach Henly Du Plessis attributed his side’s Kenya Cup loss to KCB to poor decision making.

The match, which was played at the Impala grounds over the weekend, saw Du Plessis’ men lose 44-20, ending their 10-match unbeaten run in the league.

“We made a lot of silly mistakes and our decision making was also wanting. KCB were reduced to 13 men at some point but we couldn’t capitalise on that,” Du Plessis lamented.

The setback meant Kabras are still winless against KCB since the Kakamega outfit was promoted to the top-tier in 2014.

“Our defence really let us down. We allowed them a lot of space and we were unable to retain the ball during contact,” said Du Plessis.

The loss saw KCB draw level with Kabras on the standings but the sugar millers sit at the top with a superior points difference.

Meanwhile, Impala Saracens returned to winning ways in emphatic fashion as they saw off Homeboyz 37-26. It was a much-needed win for Impala, who went to the tie on the back of a 25-3 loss to KCB in Ruaraka.

“We had to dig deep for the result. I worked on the defence and was really impressed with the outcome,” said Impala coach Frank Ndong’.

“We have been making a lot of mistakes in our execution but that has improved. Our kickers were also superb and their hard work in training is paying off,” added Ndong’.

His Homeboyz counterpart Simon Odongo was unimpressed with the level of officiating, after seeing his charges penalised in several occasions.

In other matches, Nakuru RFC continued with their resurgence as they beat visiting Mwamba 29-15, while Nondescripts edged out Kenyatta University’s Blak Blad 10-7 at the Jamhuri Showground.

Menengai Oilers compounded Mean Machine’s woes, handing the students a 36-15 loss at the University of Nairobi grounds. Sunday’s only fixture saw Kenya Harlequin stage a second half comeback to beat Strathmore Leos 41-23.
