Kenya Harlequin booked their ticket to pre-quarters of the Enterprise Cup with an impressive 80-3 win over championship outfit Ngong RFC over the weekend at RFUEA, in Nairobi.

It was the biggest win of the weekend and Quins head coach Charles Cardovillis was happy with his team’s attacking and defending displays, where Tony Mutahi bagged a hat-trick.

“We played a very good game utilising every single scoring opportunity that got us to 80 points. Our defence strategy worked very well and I am glad we didn’t concede a try,” Cardovillis said.

Quins headed into the Enterprise fixture confident from their last win over Impala and the former Kabras Sugar tactician used the opportunity to rotate his players by giving more game time to the unused squad, while resting his regulars ahead of their top fixture with Kabras.

“The idea was to give the benched players 80 minutes to regain match fitness so that everyone can play under different combinations even as we prepare for our top fixture against Kabras Sugar,” he added.

In the match, Quins registered 16 tries led by Tony Mutahi’s hat-trick and a brace each by Aaron Oforyworth, Scott Oluoch, Frank Wanyama and Jasper Ochen.

Former Kabras winger Aluda Beda, Herman Humwa, Matt Wanjia, Domnic Osino and Kenya Sevens international Willy Ambaka got one each to complete the rout with the visitors getting their three points through a penalty.

Quins will now face defending champions Menengai Cream Homeboyz in the yet to be announced pre-quarters.

Meanwhile, Strathmore Leos also knocked out Nationwide side Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) RFC from the cup competition with a 59-15 win.

Alex Maina and Barnabas Owuor crossed the white wash twice for the Leos with Arnold Mwita, Joe Otieno and Newton Nchui touching down once each.
