The ACK-Britam Ruai Marathon held on Saturday saw elderly athletes put their best foot forward under the scorching heat of Ruai, Nairobi.

Wycliff Lusala won the 21Km beating Alex Ekesa, Michael Omulako and Nick Masinde to the title of the third edition of the run geared towards raising funds for the Ruai Centre for the Elderly.

In the 3Km category (men) Alfred Muriithi finished first followed by John Gachanja while Nancy Karengo was the winner in the women’s category.

Paul Mwangi won the 10km race followed by Onesmus Muindi, Daniel Wanjau and David Koech.

In the women’s category, Jedida Wanjiru finished first ahead of Ann Njehia and Winnie Sande.

The objective of the run, dubbed ‘Run for the Elderly’, is to create awareness on the plight of the elder in the society.

“It is also meant to develop a positive impact on the plight of the elderly and ignite fully-fledged care for the elderly in the community,” the Britam Holdings’ Director for Marketing and Corporate Affairs, Muthoga Ngera, said before the race.

He added: “The run will help raise funds for the construction of a community centre for the elderly.”

ACK-Britam Ruai Marathon is an annual event.
