Machakos Sports Club chairman floors 120 golfers for victory.

On target Sawarn Singh shot a sterling round of 40 stableford points to bag the overall title of the Njuri Njeke golf day at Kenya Railways Golf Club over the weekend.

Sawarn, the Machakos Sports Club chairman, out-did 120 golfers who took part in the tournament that was presented by Kenya Wine Agencies Limited (KWAL).

Playing off handicap 15, Sawarn played to the advantage presented by the course.

As his tee-shots hit the fairways throughout his round, he gained more distance, thanks to the dry course.

“This is one of the toughest courses I have played on in my over 30 years of golf. Unfortunately with Railways, you can never be sure with your score until the awards ceremony. The course will often have its way,” said Sawarn.

“The course was playing long. I hit most of the greens on regulation, although they were quite fast and erratic."

On the front nine, Sawarn bagged four pars, four bogeys and one single double bogey for a total of 20 stableford points.

Things warmed-up at the turn as he carded five pars, three bogeys and one single double bogey for an additional 20 stableford points.

“It's been one of those good days that you enjoy a great round," Sawarn added.

Handicap 15 D Muchungu won Men winner prize with 38 stableford points. J W Kariuki won the Men winner second prize with 37 stableford points, while George Wakaba bagged Men winner third prize on a score of 35 stableford points.

John Lejirma, playing off handicap +1, won the Gross prize with 32 Gross.

The Sponsor's prize went to Joseph Murungi after posting 36 stableford points.

Edwin Murungi settled for Sponsor second prize with 34 stableford points.

Handicap eight Wanjiru Karume returned a score of 32 stableford points to claim the Ladies winner prize.

Robert Kibett won the Guest winner prize with 38 stableford points as Fred Nyenjeri was the Guest winner second with 36 stableford points.

Joel Kahindi was the First Nine winner.
