How Nairobi ballers burn Sh1 million in 60 minutes

Dubbed the night of ballers, the big party went down at Club 40Forty on Friday night with showbiz big shots showing what they are made of.

It was the second party of its kind, a night when like minds meet to party, bond and exchange business ideas.

Organised by A-One entertainment and led by Kevin Obia, the event saw the likes of Starehe MP Charles Kanyi aka Jaguar, Shaffie Weru, Gor Semelang’o, Khaligraph Jones, Prezzo and Taio attend.

Also present were Chipukeezy, Jaystaxx, Nick Mutuma and Fred Omondi.

And this is just one of the few exclusive parties shaping Nairobi club life where lavish spending is a way of life. Not so long ago, one of the sons to a senior politician spent Sh1.5 million in a club in less than an hour as he treated his friends to drinks during a rave. Sh1 million went to drinks while the rest was on snacks and tips.

Five months ago, Nana Gecaga held a mega birthday party at the Billionaires Resort in Malindi, a white and gold-themed party that saw showbiz personalities and politicians jet land in private choppers.

Among those in attendance were Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko and President Uhuru’s son Jomo. In total there were 40 guests and the party started on Friday and ended on Sunday.

It was never disclosed how much the party cost but a staff member at the hotel said it was such a boost to the hotel that they were able to recoup business lost over the past two months in just a weekend.

The guests took over the 24 private and exclusive apartments at Billionaires Resort that are rented out at Sh100,000 per night.

Nana was gifted Giuseppe Zanotti shoes worth around Sh215,000. She reportedly left behind a Sh200,000 tip for the hotel staff.

And not so long ago, during Steve Mbogo’s white-themed birthday party it was nothing less of a show as ‘ballers’ flexed muscles to show what they are made of.

With the likes of Babu Owino, Jared Otieno, Governor Amason Kingi and Huddah the Boss Lady in attendance at the Dusit D2 Lounge affair, the parking lot was a display of state-of-the-art rides with Ferraris and Lamborghinis on show.

A birthday cake gamble was settled on a €15,000 bet, the equivalent of Sh1.6 million.

When the 20 champagne bottles were lifted for a toast, crisp Sh1,000 notes wafted in the air like leaves, littering the floor, and no one was interested in collecting them.

It was Babu Owino who had pulled out Sh100,000 to steal the show as he blew the notes onto the crowd. Bills and all other expenses at the white party affair were being paid in cash, mostly in Euros.
