Kenyan Premier League: Leopards maul armed Rangers in Machakos

AFC Leopards edged out Posta Rangers 2-1 in a tough Kenyan Premier League (KPL) match at Machakos Stadium yesterday.

The match was headed for draw until the 85th minute when Alex Orotomol’s screamer ensured Leopards picked the three points.

The Nigerian had scored the first goal for Leopards in the 14th minute before Rangers equalized in the 32nd minute through Gershon Likono.

At Camp Toyoyo, Kariobangi Sharks thrashed Nakumatt 5-2 in a seven goal thriller.

In a match played at Camp Toyoyo grounds, Sharks forward Eric Kapaito was the hero of the day after scored he a hat-trick to send his tally to 12 goals this season.

The losers came into the match on the back of a 3-0 loss to Ulinzi Stars and looking determined to make amends for it. Six minutes into the match, Nakumatt were up thanks to Amani Kayata’s header from a Clinton Kisiavuki cross.

After that goal, Nakumatt looked the dominant side and could have easily doubled it. Sharks also had a chance to get back into the match with a couple of near misses.

Having settled down, Sharks took the front seat and were back in the match just before the half hour mark when Eric Kapaito opened his account also with a header from a Patilah Omotto effort.

Sharks went ahead in the 31st minute when George Abege slotted the ball inside the Nakumatt left corner with goalkeeper Lucas Indeche well beaten.

Eager to get back into the match, Nakumatt rested Boniface Mukhekhe for experienced and widely travelled Moses Odhiambo. Kariobangi Sharks, on the other hand, rested George Abege for Sydney Simale.

A defensive blunder by Nakumatt earned Sharks a penalty which Kapaito slotted home in the 54th minute. The penalty was awarded after Simale who had just come on as a substitute was brought down by Eugene Ambulwa  inside his own box.

Kapaito made it three at the hour mark making it 4-1 for his side. Six minutes later, Simale was on the score sheet sending home Duke Abuya’s through ball.

Even a late goal from John Mwangi was not enough for Nakumatt who have now lost two matches in a row.
