Everton planning huge shake-up, set to clear out players, coach and management

Everton will listen to offers for Wayne Rooney as part of a shock summer revolution which could also lead to the departures of manager Sam Allardyce and chairman Bill Kenwright.

Majority shareholder Farhad Moshiri has been shaken by a season of struggle after ­splashing out almost ­£200million in the two transfer windows and wants big changes.

That includes sanctioning the sale of Rooney after fewer than 12 months at the club.

It was theatre impresario ­Kenwright who brought Rooney back to the club from ­Manchester United last summer.

But the gamble has misfired, with the Everton coaching staff believing that, despite the ­player’s commitment, Rooney’s impact at the age of 32 has not fulfilled expectations.

Now, Kenwright’s own ­position as a major decision-maker, alongside Moshiri, is under threat.

The agreement reached when Moshiri bought into the club – that former owner Kenwright stay on as chairman – runs out in August.

That could lead to Kenwright leaving or having his role at the club substantially reduced.

Already Allardyce’s role as manager is under review fewer than five months into his 18-month, £6million-a-year deal.

Shakhtar Donetsk’s Paulo Fonseca, Watford’s former boss Marco Silva and Bournemouth’s Eddie Howe are all seen as ­potential successors.

And to complete a hectic close season of change, chief ­executive Robert Elstone is working his notice after ­agreeing to move to Super League.

Meanwhile, Everton are close to appointing PSV Eindhoven’s Marcel Brands as their technical director, the role he has with the new Dutch champions.

That has placed Goodison Park’s director of football Steve Walsh’s future in doubt.

Moshiri has conducted a ­review of the club as he looks to leave behind an underachieving season, which has led to ­discontent among the fans.

The major decisions will now be his and he is ­demanding a better return for his investment, ­especially with the club committed to moving from Goodison to a new stadium in the Bramley-Moore dock area.

Unless there is a change of heart from any new management team, ­feelers will be put out to see if there are any takers for Rooney.

He has said that the only ­English club he would join ­following his Old Trafford exit was Everton, which means that the best chance of a sale will ­arrive from the MLS or China.

The striker has turned down huge financial offers from China, but may now have to reconsider.

However, a more favoured destination would be the USA with David Beckham’s Miami franchise now looking at future signings.

What is not in doubt is that it will be a summer of change in the Blue half of Merseyside
