Despite apparent violence, World Wrestling is one of the safest sports.

Have you ever wondered whether that World Wrestling match is real?

Many local fans are familiar with the World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE), which was a common feature on local television a few years ago and is still available on SuperSport channels.

But what they do not know is that it is a well choreographed show where every effort is made to ensure that the participants don’t get hurt at all.

Despite the apparent violence - where sometimes an opponent's head is banged on the floor, it is one of the safest sports and viewers are cautioned not to try it at home.

The WWE completed a tour of South Africa on Saturday after three performances in Cape Town, Pretoria and Johannesburg.

The Ticket Dome hosted the last show on Saturday, when Standard Sports had an opportunity to watch the happenings.

The stage was electrifying and the participants did everything possible to psyche up the crowd made up of mostly children and men.

The family-friendly events featured WWE Superstars Braun Strowman, Seth Rollins, Dean Ambrose, Intercontinental Champion Roman Reigns, RAW Women’s Champion Alexa Bliss, Sasha Banks, Asuka, RAW Tag Team Champions Cesaro and Sheamus.

“Following the overwhelming demand from our fans in Africa, we were excited to return to Cape Town and Johannesburg, and bring WWE LIVE to Pretoria for the first time,” said Stefan Kastenmüller, Senior Vice President & General Manager, WWE Africa, Europe & Emerging Markets.

The event was presented in partnership with Multichoice which, through SuperSport, airs WWE programming in more than 50 countries.

At the end of the shows, the wrestlers said they were excited about being in Africa.

“Africa is so beautiful, it has always been on my bucket list. There is so much natural beauty, the cultures are amazing," said Braun Strowman

Samoa Joe said: “We want to start investing across Africa; hopefully we will be expanding across borders.

"My advice to African kids who want to duplicate WWE performers is STOP. They aren’t trained performers, they don’t know how this works. It’s dangerous."
