Former Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Chairman Sam Nyamweya has asked the Government to adopt a more proactive approach in helping the national team Harambee Stars qualify for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon.

Nyamweya also praised the Government for motivating the team for their recent triumph during the senior challenge cup when they beat Zanzibar 3-2 on post-match penalties.

He also challenged private companies to invest more in football, pointing out that it would help to grow the sport.

“I take this opportunity to join Kenyans in congratulating the senior men’s national soccer team following their record-breaking seventh CECAFA Senior Challenge Cup trophy in four years,” he said.

“It is my desire to see more corporate investment in football, driven by deliberate Government incentives under the Public Private Partnership and Rapid Results Initiatives to enable us realise our full potential in football and sports at large.”

He also hailed the federation for staging a successful tournament at a time when the country was going through a bruising post-election period and hurting from the disappointment of missing out on the right to host the 2018 CAF African Nations Championship (CHAN 2018).
