Nairobi’s MASA wants football to be great again in Eastlands

Makongeni Sports Association (MASA) has made its intentions clear that Kenyan football will find its roots again in Nairobi’s Eastland estates.

The community project based in Makongeni estate, Nairobi, on Friday morning embarked on a football tournament that is being played in four estates across Eastland.

“This year we celebrate 11 years since MASA was born. Among the events organized to celebrate this achievement is a boys under 10 and 13 soccer tournament that begins today Friday 8/12/17. The event will take place in four different estates. Makongeni, Kaloleni, Shaurimoyo and Kinyago have the necessary facilities that we need to have this event a success,” noted a statement through their official social media page.

MASA is a non-profit organization that has the main aim of nurturing raw talent from the rough neighborhoods of Kenya’s capital city. The officials have now organized this tournament comprising of over 20 teams. South B, Mbotela, Kinyago, Majengo, Shauri Moyo, Makadara, Bahati, Land Mawe and Umoja estates are just but a few that will have their teams square it out.

“Over the 11 years we have been in existence, MASA has mentored young boys through access to talent development and education through sports who have moved on to be responsible young men in society,” MASA continued to note through social media.

The organization boasts of having success stories of young footballers such as midfielder Teddy Osok who got a contract with KPL champions Gormahia fc but later was loaned out to KCB fc, others who are climbing the ladder of success from MASA are Shadrack Andale, Eugine Wethuli and Brian Musa who both play for National Super League side Nairobi Stima fc.

This season they will also celebrate the success of Brian Bwire who got drafted by Kenya Premier League debutants Kariobangi Sharks fc. The Grande finale is scheduled to be hosted on Sunday 10/12/17 at Makongeni grounds, Nairobi.
