Golf: Former club chairman Kamau wins CBA golf tourney

He defied all odds to emerge the overall winner.

Former club chairman Sam Kamau defied all odds around the par 72 course on the challenging greens, man-made lake and the signature hole 15 to emerge the overall winner of the 2017 Commercial Bank of Africa (CBA) golf tournament played on Saturday.

Handicap 14 Kamau claimed the victory after returning a score of 39 stableford points.

His win came as a result of sinking two rare birdies in both nines and levelling eight holes after recovering from mixed bogey shots on the rest and a scratch on the par five-18th hole.

“I did not expect to play well but this win has raised my morale for better achievements, “said Kamau.

Home club’s handicap 19 Mark Haywood won the runners-up slot while Brian Bringloe from Italy settled for third place.

Commercial Bank of Africa sponsored the day-long 18-hole stableford event attracted golfers from the home club, Mombasa, Nyali, Vipingo, Malaindi and golfers and staffs with valid handicaps.

The event was also as rehearsals for the golfers including Ladies and Junior who will be taking part at the same venue in this year’s Diani Beach Masters tourney from Friday to Saturday.

The course will also be the host from Wednesday to 100 golf professionals from the East African region and beyond who will be battling it out for the Prime Banks’s Sh1 million prize money kitty.

At Thika Sports Course, Ben Thiga  posted 44 points to emerge the overall winner of the 2017 Tatu City golf tourney.
