Elijah Manangoi, Hellen Obiri nominated for World Athlete of the Year 2017

London 2017 World Champs gold medalist Elijah Manangoi and her counterpart Hellen Obiri feature on a  list of 10 men and 10 women nominees who were selected by an international panel of athletics experts, comprising representatives from all six continental areas of the IAAF.

The voting process kicked off on 2nd October, for the 2017 World Athletes of the Year ahead of the IAAF Athletics Awards 2017 in Monaco on Friday 24 November.

Manangoi will face stiff competition from Great Britain’s Mohamed Farah (GBR) and Omar McLeod of Jamaica.

In women’s category Kenya’s Hellen Obiri will be up against South Africa’s Caster Semenya and Almaz Ayana of Ethiopia.

Voting Process

The IAAF Council and the IAAF Family will cast their votes by email, while fans can vote online via the IAAF's social media platforms. Individual graphics for each nominee will be posted on Facebook and Twitter later this week; where 'like' or 'favourite' will count as a vote.

The IAAF Council’s vote will count for 50% of the result, while the IAAF Family’s votes and the public votes will each count for 25% of the final result.

Voting ends on 16 October, where three men and three women finalists will be announced by the IAAF.

Almaz Ayana of Ethiopia and Jamaica's Usain Bolt scooped the awards for the female and male Athlete of Year respectively.
