A new study has converted some of the Premier League's biggest transfers into today's money-spinning figures, and the results are somewhat surprising.

Players who would have been going for just a few million in previous years are now trading places for much, much more than that, with prices going up and up as more and more money pours into the division.

Now a new study from SmartBets - the odds comparison site from bettingexpert.com - has judged the average transfer fee from each summer up against the average cost in each of the 25 years of the division, and come up with the staggering figures that some of the game's greats would be going for if their moves were happening right now.

And they've found that it is Rio Ferdinand's 2002 move from Leeds to Manchester United which comes out on top, with his £29.1m switch worth a stunning £113.9m today.

Rio's switch puts him top of the tree ahead of Alan Shearer's £15m move from Blackburn to Newcastle in 1996, a switch which would be worth a cool £106.3m today.

The full top 10 looks like this:

2002 Rio Ferdinand - Leeds to Man United - then £29,100,000 now £113,910,017.84

1996 Alan Shearer - Blackburn to Newcastle £15,000,000 £106,381,568.38

2006 Andriy Shevchenko - AC Milan to Chelsea £30,800,000 £97,349,399.86

2014 Angel Di Maria - Real Madrid to Man United £59,700,000 £94,523,738.27

2005 Michael Essien - Lyon to Chelsea £24,400,000 £93,828,582.60

2004 Didier Drogba - Marseille to Chelsea £24,000,000 £90,419,198.48

2016 Paul Pogba - Juventus to Man United £89,250,000 £89,250,000.00

2013 Mesut Ozil - Real Madrid to Arsenal £42,500,000 £85,830,609.63

2011 Sergio Aguero - Atletico Madrid to Man City £31,500,000 £81,397,471.29

2008 Robinho - Real Madrid to Man City £36,500,000 £79,791,402.17

So that's Paul Pogba's world record move from Juventus to Manchester United last summer down in seventh place, with no change to the £89.25m fee.

Three Chelsea moves from the mid-2000s - the signings of Andriy Shevchenko, Michael Essien and Didier Drogba - and United's 2014 capture of Angel Di Maria are all considered more expensive.
