Why it was right for Sanchez's goal to stand

Alexis Sanchez broke the deadlock in just four minutes of Arsenal’s FA Cup final against Chelsea at Wembley on Saturday.

The Chilean latched onto a deflection after beating N’Golo Kante to the ball before charging into the area and slotting past Thibaut Courtois.

However, Aaron Ramsey was in an offside position when the loose ball bounced close by him in the area, and the linesman raised his flag.

There was mass confusion in the moments following the ball hitting the back of the net as both Arsene Wenger and Sanchez looked distraught.

Referee Anthony Taylor then ran over to his linesman and the duo discussed the incident while Danny Murphy, providing BBC commentary, said the goal had to be given.

Taylor then blew his whistle and pointed to the centre circle, signalling that the goal would stand - much to the relief of every Arsenal fan in the ground.
