Wahome shrugs off Rugo to win Kenya Re tournament

Golf Park’s Francis Wahome, playing off handicap six, fired 42 stableford points to win the Kenya Re Golf Day tournament on Friday at par 72 Karen Country Club in Nairobi.

Wahome beat handicap 17 Eric Rugo of Thika on count back to lift the title. Lloyd Oito of Golf Park who played off handicap 14 clinched third place when he amassed 39 points.

Oito beat Stephen Ndungu of Muthaiga on countback at the contest. Joe Sang also beat other five players on countback to settle for fifth place with 37 points.

“I loved the well-maintained greens, because it eased my play. The fairways too were clear. I was inspired by my team mates to play well. Everyone had a fighting spirit,” Wahome said.

Kenya Re management stated they have plans to go big with the tournament following their first ever international golf tournament held at the celebrated Lusaka Golf Club on November 9 last year to commemorate the official launch of their regional office in Zambia.

“This is just but the beginning. We have plans to make this tournament asexciting as possible for the players,” Kenya Re said in a statement to the media.

The Zambia event was hosted to promote the launch and expansion of Kenya Reinsurance business into Zambia. It attracted 111 players drawn from the insurance industry in Zambia, and created a less formal environment for brand interaction with high level decision makers within the reinsurance industry.
