Joy as KCB bank title: Bankers reflect on successful season and take delight in vital win.

Kenya Commercial Bank captain Curtis Lilako is a happy man.

He is full of praise for his team-mates after they convincingly defeated Kenya Cup champions Kabras Sugar 36-8 to reclaim the title at the Lions’ Den, Ruaraka, at the weekend.

Interestingly, it was a repeat of the 2015 final when the bankers ended their seven-year title drought after they defeated the millers 27-3.

Kenyan international Oliver Mang’eni grounded a brace as instrumental full-back Darwin Mukidza, Jacob Ojee and Peter Karia scored a try each to hand the bankers their fifth Kenya Cup trophy.

And Lilako couldn’t his hide his delight after an impressive display in front of their home fans. He lauded his team-mates for a job well done.

“We knew we could win, but we had to fight hard. However, we didn’t think it would go the way it did as we had to dig deep and contain them (Kabras) on their strong points. All in all, it was a sweet win,” said Lilako.

“We sadly lost in last year’s semifinal, but today (Saturday), the boys showed what KCB is made of and brought back the Cup. I am proud of their performance.”

Reflecting on their whole season’s performance, the captain said; “We were chasing an unbeaten run this season, but that never came to pass.However, the good thing is that the title is back in our cabinet.”

Just like his captain, KCB coach Curtis Olago was delighted with the team’s victory.

“We won with a great technique and we are grateful to God for this great moment,” said Olago.

Meanwhile, Kisii RFC and Mombasa RFC have been promoted to next year’s Kenya Cup League after they finished first and second respectively in this year’s KRU championships League.

The pair has replaced Western Bulls and Mean Machine who were relegated at the end of the regular season. Kisii defeated Mombasa 25-10 to claim the 2017 KRU Championships title on Saturday.
