MUDANYI TRIUMPHS: Vet Lab player sinks seven rare birdies in Valentine tournament

National team golfer Edwin Mudanyi set a record by sinking seven rare birdies to win this year’s Valentine Shield tournament at the 72 Vet Lab course on Saturday.

This gave the off handicap-01 Mudanyi an excellent 42 stable ford points victory in beating 121 golfers in the day long 18-holes tournament.

Mudanyi sank four rare birdies in the fore nine, added another three in the back nine and rolled level pars in the rest of the holes to celebrate his early Valentine’s Dayand claim the overall trophy.

“The course was playing well. This will be a challenging year with several events lined up and having such results is a great encouragement in my game,” said Mudanyi.

Royal’s handicap 3 John Odhiambo on 37 points and Vet’s handicap 17 Frankie Gichuru finished in second and third positions.

At the par 71 Muthaiga course the 10th annual Maneno World Valentine event was won by home golfer handicap 9 Ben Murimi who posted 40 points.

In the event that attracted 196 golfers, handicap 18 Anthony Mburu also from Muthaiga was the men runners up on 38 points while the League Warriorprize was claimed by club mate handicap 2 Evans Vitishia on the same points.

Handicap 36 Natasha Khromov also from Muthaiga shot 36 points to emerge the Lady winner beating club mate handicap 17 Samira Furrer to the runners up slot by a two points difference.

The Senior Winner prize was won by handicap 11 Azirikam Lubia with 30 points while handicap 5 Kellie Gechaga on 39 points which was the second best score of the day, was the Junior Winner.

The guest prize was won by Vet Lab’s handicap 25 Florence Maina with 37 points.

And at Kiambu course home clubs handicap 16 posted a count back score of 37 points to emerge the men winner of the 2017 Johnnie walker series played on Saturday.
