Phil Jones has revealed how Jose Mourinho convinced him to stay at Old Trafford after Louis van Gaal’s treatment made him consider leaving.
Phil Jones says that his ex-boss Van Gaal was not “one of three managers who have truly believed in me and understood me as a player”.
Sir Alex Ferguson and his former Rovers manager Sam Allardyce were the first two to give Jones the belief he needed, and now former Chelsea and Real Madrid chief Mourinho has made him feel the same way.
Jones told Manchester Evening News: “The only three (managers to believe in me) were Sam Allardyce, Sir Alex Ferguson and now Jose Mourinho.
“Jose, this season has just given me so much confidence in training. You make a mistake and it is just a case of ‘so what, get on with it’.”
Lethal defender Phil Jones has become a key man in Jose Mourinho’s defence at Manchester United this season.
