Ballack has so often been unlucky at international level he has at least played in two Champions League finals.

Unfortunately he finished on the losing side each time -- with Bayer Leverkusen in 2002 and with Chelsea when Manchester United won the Champions League following 6-5 on penalties after a dramatic 1-1 draw.

Jonathan Richter was forced to have his leg amputated after being struck by lightning

Jonathan Richter (born 16 January 1985) is a Danish disabled professional football midfielder, who played for the Danish Superliga side FC Nordsjælland.

On 20 July 2009 while playing at Hvidovre Stadion, Richter was struck by lightning which resulted in cardiac arrest. He had his leg amputated six weeks after being struck by lightning.

Benfica haven't won a European trophy for 52 years despite being in eight finals!

Joining the Benfica team as a teenager in 1960, Eusebio has played under the legendary manager, Bela Guttman. Bela Guttman led the club to back-to-back European Cups.

Benfica looked in a dominant form but when the legendary manager Bela Guttman asked pay rise. The club rejected his request and thus reportedly the manager cursed the club will not win European cup for another 100 years.

Since than beneficial has lost 7 European cup finals and they have reached most recently in 1990 against Milan, Eusebio, who Guttman brought to the club, even prayed at his grave to try and lift the curse, but to no avail. It has been 100 years and the curse is still going on him.
