Tottenham in transfer talks over Roma's Antonio Sanabria

Spurs have opened talks with Roma for £11.5million striker Antonio Sanabria.

The north Londoners are already hopeful of landing £12m-rated forward Vincent Janssen from Dutch side AZ Alkmaar, and these deals would provide the strength in depth that Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino has been seeking after prioritising support for England striker Harry Kane.

Sanabria, 20, is a Paraguay international who spent last season on loan at Spain's Sporting Gijon, where he scored 11 goals.

He had previously been a fringe player at his parent club and was in the Barcelona B team before that.

La Liga champions Barca have expressed an interest in taking him back to Spain this summer but Sanabria is keen on a move to the Premier League.

Kane will continue as Spurs' main striker in the top-flight and Champions League, but the club see Sanabria and Janssen as players wo are happy to provide back-up as they adapt to the English game.

Tottenham are unwilling to meet Marseille’s £31m asking price for 22-year-old Belgium striker Michy Batshuayi , who also wants wages of up to £100,000-a-week.

West Ham have also gone cold on Batshuayi too, with his French club refusing to budge on their valuation. Italian champions Juventus are now in the hunt too.

Despite their admiration for Batshuayi, Spurs have already promised their Supporters Trust they will target more realistically-priced players after the failure of £26m summer 2013 signing Roberto Soldado.

Their performance-related package of over £20m for Saido Berahino - rejected by West Brom last summer - came because the 22-year-old striker was seen as a player already proven in the Premier League.

Pochettino is keen to have his signings wrapped up quickly, in time for Tottenham’s pre-season programme.

He is already set to seal the £11m capture of midfielder Victor Wanyama from former club Southampton, three years after he signed him for Saints from Scottish giants Celtic.

The 24-year-old, who will sign a four-year contract, has confirmed a deal is close to completion.
