Police in Trans- Mara East, Narok County are investigating an incident where a 16-year-old girl committed suicide following an alleged feud with her stepfather.

The Standard Seven pupil at Ntimama Primary School committed suicide by hanging.

Confirming the incident, Trans-Mara East Sub-County Police Commander David Maina said the teen hanged herself from a branch after an alleged quarrel with her stepfather with whom she was living with.

The police boss said that detectives are investigating whether foul play was involved in the death.

"This girl was living with her aunt and stepfather. We are investigating the incident to see whether there was foul play in her death," said Maina.

The body of the deceased has been moved to Kapkatet Sub-County Hospital mortuary in Bureti, Kericho County pending postmortem.

Death by suicide cases across Narok County, especially among teens, is on the rise.

Early this year, a 13-year-old Standard Three boy killed himself by hanging over alleged hunger soon after returning home from school. His parents were recently evicted from Mau forest.
