Elder who brokered peace between Marakwet and Pokot succumbs to Covid-19

Marakwet ODM chairman Samuel Chemweno has succumbed to Covid-19.

Mr Chemweno, who has also been spearheading peace efforts between warring communities in Marakwet and Pokot counties, lost a two-week battle with the respiratory disease at an Eldoret Hospital.

His brother Richard Kore said Chemweno died at the St Lukes Orthopaedic and Trauma Hospital on Thursday.

Mr Kore said his brother was under home-based care but his condition worsened on Wednesday and he was rushed to the hospital.

The late Chemweno was part of an ODM campaign team dubbed ‘Raila National Operation’. He was also among elders who organised cursing ceremonies to combat banditry.
