Police in Trans Nzoia West Sub-County are piecing together leads to apprehend perpetrators of a gruesome murder of a 25-year-old woman in Bondeni estate, Kitale.

The deceased identified as Elizabeth Wanyonyi was allegedly raped, before being killed and the body dumped by the roadside.

Detectives visited the scene and collected evidence which they say will help them narrow down culprits of the heinous act.

Area assistant chief Jackline Sitoyi said the body was collected from the roadside at 6am on Wednesday.

“It is a horrible murder. She was half-naked and her body mutilated. A stick was inserted in her private parts,” the chief said.

The deceased is a resident of Bungoma County, who had visited her elder sister who lives in Veterinary area in Trans Nzoia.

She was last seen on Tuesday evening walking on the streets alongside her elder sister, the sister’s husband and another man, who is yet to be identified.

It remains unclear how she was abducted and assaulted.

The whereabouts of the deceased’s sister, her spouse and the unidentified man remain unknown.

"We are gathering information to help us trace the killers. We are appealing to the public to volunteer information that will help police arrest the perpetrators," said Sitoyi.

Residents demanded that police hunt down and bring to book people responsible for the woman's death.

"This is a beastly act. We condemn it. We want the people responsible captured," said Joash Simiyu, a resident said.
