Three people died in an accident at Dondori Trading Centre, on Nyahururu-Nakuru road yesterday.

According to Bahati sub-County police boss Jacinta Wangechi, the accident involved 10 vehicles, among them, a tanker, a salon car and eight lorries.

Wangechi said the accident occurred after the driver of the tanker coming from Nyahururu town, lost control and his vehicle rammed others that were parked along the highway.

Three people died on spot, including the driver of the tanker, while eight others who were selling food produce were critically injured in the afternoon accident.

“Most of the survivors sustained head injuries. They are however stable, and undergoing review in different hospitals,” she said.

County Government of Nakuru ambulances were dispatched to the scene and evacuated those who sustained multiple injuries to Rift Valley Provincial General and Olkalau hospitals.

Jimmy Wagakabu, an eye witnesses told The Standard that the driver of the tanker was speeding, before he lost control of the vehicle.

“Driver of the tanker tried to control the vehicle, but it was hard because it was speeding,” Wagakabu said.

The accident also caused fire after the vehicle hit high voltage overhead electricity cables along the highway.

“We are happy that the Kenya Power swiftly moved to the scene and disconnected cable that were on the road,” said the police boss.
