Robbers torture, kill M-pesa agent in Kericho

Police officers in Kericho are looking for robbers who tortured and killed a 30-year-old M-pesa agent at Kapsoit trading centre in Ainamoi Constituency before making away with Sh160, 000.

Silas Gichunge, the Kericho County Police Commander said the assailants accosted the deceased at around 8 pm Monday night as he was about to close shop and stabbed him in the stomach before melting into the darkness with the loot.

First responders said the deceased’s legs were bound with a rope and he had been stabbed in the stomach using a sharp object.

"Police officers visited the crime scene at night and we expect that more details about the assailants and the motive will emerge today," said Gichunge.

Kapsoit Member of County Assembly Paul Chirchir who was among the first residents to rush to the scene described the deceased as industrious.

"We request the investigation team to carry out thorough investigations and leave no stone unturned until the criminals behind the heinous crime are brought to book," he said.

He called on the County Commissioner Kamau Karungo to convene an urgent security meeting to address the rising levels of insecurity in the trading centre.

" The security agencies must keep their ears to the ground and ensure that the lives and property of our people are secured," said Chirchir.

Rural Electrification Authority (Rea) board member Mrs Beatrice Kemei blamed alcoholism and drug abuse for the rising crime level.

" We appeal to the County Commissioner to ensure that brewing and consumption of illicit drinks, as well as drug abuse, is decisively deal with," she said.
