Laikipia county holds daily virtual briefings

Laikipia County has resorted to online meetings to help contain the Covid-19 pandemic.

The county has been holding daily briefings online at 3pm, during which health officials give updates on the measures being taken to contain the pandemic.

“It is cost effective and efficient. Officers from different towns in the county are able to participate from wherever they are. We get real-time updates," said Governor Ndiritu Muriithi (pictured), adding that it  also helps them observe social distancing guidelines to avoid the spread of the virus.

Counties have been urged to create plans to deal with the disease should the situation get worse like it has in other countries, and for this reason, Mr Muriithi has also brought on board other sectors in the daily virtual conferencing.

Those invited to the daily briefings include journalists, police officers, the county commissioner, private sector players and security installations, including the British Army.

County employees are working from home except for those in essential departments.

The county is identifying institutions that can be used as isolation centres.
