Raila: There is nothing like dynasties, we are all struggling

Nobody should talk about dynasties, ODM Leader Raila Odinga said on Wednesday during former President Daniel Moi’s funeral service.

Raila narrated how Moi rose from poverty to become Kenya’s second president just like his predecessor Jomo Kenyatta and ally Jaramogi Oginga.

“What is dynasty? What did Moi inherit? Moi struggled… His children are also struggling like any other Kenyan,” he said amid cheers from the mourners.

“Just like Uhuru is also struggling like any other Kenyan and Raila also,” he said adding that no leader is entitled to anything for being sons of Kenyan leaders.

Raila narrated how Jaramogi came up with the phrase “a giraffe with a long neck that saw far” to describe Mzee Moi after they were picked to the Legislative Council of Kenya (Legco) in 1958.

“Moi could predict what will happen in the future and warned them so that they are careful when confronting the imperialist,” he said.

The ODM leader described Moi as a hero who has been mourned as a man of faith as he bid farewell to Mzee Moi by singing a Luo dirge.

Raila then waved a fly-whisk as he shouted Jowi a Luo word meaning buffalo.

He then bowed before the casket of a man he has described a true African and a patriot.

The former Prime Minister was yesterday (Tuesday) was among thousands of Kenyans who attended the memorial service of the former president at Nyayo Stadium, Nairobi.

He talked about his family’s long-standing ties with the former President Daniel arap Moi, who he described as a freedom fighter.
