Voting delayed at Nakuru Town East Constituency following missing ballot papers

Returning Officer Silas Rotich briefing media about the missing ballot papers.

There was confusion at Nairobi Road Primary School polling station in Nakuru after election officials announced that there were no ballot papers for the Members of County Assembly (MCAs).

According to Nono Githiomi, a registered voter at the station, the voters had turned up at dawn to  vote. "We came very early but no voting could continue at Stream 3. The ballot papers belonged to a ward in Kirinyaga," said Githiomi.

The determined voters remained calm despite the harsh weather in the morning. By 9:30am, they had not voted.

County Returning Officer Silas Rotich arrived at the station and said the EBC is addressing the issue.

"A helicopter has already left Kiine Ward, Ndia Constituency in Kirinyaga County with our ballot papers. It is still early and we hope that they will arrive in time," said Rotich.

The helicopter is expected to land at Nakuru High School, the county tallying centre where the ballots for Kirinyaga County have been ferried under tight security.

The County Assembly is the legislative arm of the County Government which makes laws to govern certain operations. The assembly also has oversight responsibilities for the county’s operations. The County Assembly consists of elected Members of County Assembly (MCAs) from the wards, nominated members and a Speaker elected by the County Assembly.
