Endorois threaten to move to ICC over insecurity in Baringo

NAKURU: Endorois Humanitarian, Peace and Justice Committee has threatened to move to the International Criminal Court (ICC) to sue the government for failing to restore security in Baringo County.

Speaking in Nakuru town over the weekend, led by the group secretary Kipruto Kimosop, the community said that despite heavy security personnel having been deployed in the county, there is forceful eviction of people and murder in Arabal, Mochongoi and Chebinyiny locations by cattle rustlers.

Members of the committee were reacting following the killing of Kenya Reservist Police (KRP) officers in Arabal on Saturday by bandits.

More than 10,000 people in affected areas have moved to camps due to fear of being attacked and brutal killings of more than 26 people with hundreds having been injured.

Kimosop added high school drop-out rates in the county have gone up with 11 schools having been closed and four operating partially following often attacks.

"Attention of insecurity has been raised to both National and County governments including visits by top security people and committees but nothing have been done," said Kimosop.

He said the latest ultimatum of disarmament by Joseph Nkaissery expired on March 12, and that there is nothing has been done to restore security that continue affecting general operation of residents.

The lobby group has appealed to humanitarian agencies both local and international to intervene and mitigate the humanitarian crisis facing the county.
