Police recover children’s bodies in dreaded Suguta Valley

Samburu, Kenya: Police officers in Samburu County with assistance of locals yesterday recovered bodies of two children in the remote Suguta Valley.

The two aged six and 12 years fell to their death from the edge of the intimidating valley, at Malaso view point where they were herding livestock.

It took over three hours to retrieve their bodies. According to Mr Joseph Lesilampa, a resident, the younger child decided to view the valley at the edge of the escarpment and slid down.

The elder one died while trying to rescue him.

Lesilampa said one of the children who was herding the livestock with the two victims reported the incident to them.

Access to site

Samburu County Police Commandant Patrick Wambane warned residents against exposing their children to danger. Wambane said children should only access the site when accompanied by adults. The bodies were taken to Maralal District Hospital Mortuary.
