Mututho drops governor bid for MP seat

Naivasha MP John Mututho has now dropped his intentions of vying for the post of governor Nakuru County.

Mututho said that he would defend his parliamentary seat noting that there were some issues which he wanted to address as an MP.

He was not, however, clear if he would be going for the Naivasha or Gilgil seat but confirmed that he was in TNA party.

“I have decided to step down in my quest for the post of governor and I will be defending my seat in the coming election,” he said.

He said that he felt that he would serve Naivasha people better as an MP adding that his development record spoke better for himself.

Mututho pointed out to the pending bill on the flower farm workers as an issue he planned to address if re-elected as MP.

He noted that for years, workers in the horticulture sector had suffered for long over poor wages and working conditions.

“I had presented a bill in parliament and I want to follow it up if re-elected as MP in the coming general election,” he said.

Mututho was among the leading governor contenders for the post which has attracted former AP commandant Kinuthia Mbugua, Assistant Minister Lee Kinyanjui and former NCIC Commissioner Lawrence Bomet.

Asked on who he would be supporting for the seat, the outspoken MP was not committal adding that he would decide that in due course.
“I have not decided which aspirant to back for the post of governor in the coming elections but I will decide this soon,” he said.

A week ago, the MP accompanied Kinyanjui in a church service in Naivasha where they hit out at the former AP commandant.

Mututho questioned the credibility and track record of Kinuthia adding that he had nothing to offer for the county.
