Mukurweini worst, Starehe tops in fresh voter listing record

Starehe constituency, the country’s seat of power, led the country in recruiting the most voters in the just-concluded national voter registration.

According to the figures released by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC), the constituency registered 12,935 fresh voters of the 1,421,710 voters registered nationally in the month-long exercise.

The constituency is followed closely by Kisumu Central which registered 12,015 new voters in the exercise while another Nairobi constituency- Embakasi South - follows with 11,544.

But it was Nyaribari Chache constituency that pulled a surprise by emerging the fourth-best after registering 10,788 new voters.

 Westlands constituency in Nairobi came fifth, netting in 10,128 fresh voters followed by Kanduyi constituency with 9,663 new voters. Dagoretti North listed 9,009 fresh voters scooping position seven.

The famed baba’s bedroom of Kibra ranked eighth after it registered 8,894 followed by Ruaraka at 8,741. Lurambi capped the list of top ten at 8,490 while Raila’s home constituency of Bondo registered 8,407, falling out of the top ten by a whisker.

 Embakasi South recorded the most voter transfers with 7,160 voters changing their stations. It was followed by Lang’ata 6,888, Embakasi East 4,082, Embakasi Central 4,013, Nakuru Town East 3,880, Kasipul, 3,469, Borabu, 3,432 and Matungu at 3,405.

In terms of the worst performers on new voter listing, Mukurweini constituency in Nyeri holds the record. The constituency registered a paltry 835 fresh voters in the one-month exercise.

Lamu East came a distant second last at 1,216, followed by Isiolo South 1,234, Tetu 1,530, Lafey 1,559, Mathioya 1,699, Mbeere North 1,717, Ndia 1,724 and Laikipia North 1,887.

In county terms, Nairobi led with 139,560 new voters followed by Nakuru 58,436, Kiambu 54,688, Kisii 54,089, Kakamega 53,055, Bungoma 49,186, Meru 45,083, Uasin Gishu 41,687 and Kilifi40,841.

The worst performing counties were led from the bottom by Lamu 5,438, Isiolo 5,768, Samburu  7,711, Tana River 11,290, Laikipia 11,027, Taita Taveta 13,389, Marsabit 15,953, Embu 14,434, Nyandarua 15,133, Kirinyaga 15,736 and Nyeri 18,191.?
