President Uhuru Kenyatta has reacted after NASA presidential candidate Raila Odinga withdrew his candidature on Tuesday from the repeat election.
President Uhuru stated that Raila exercised his constitutional right by withdrawing from the race scheduled to take place on October 26.
The Head of State, however, indicated that the fresh poll will go on as planned by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission.
Uhuru spoke during a campaign rally in Voi.
The President had on Monday welcomed Raila’s plan to withdraw from the showdown.
Uhuru pointed out that Kenyans are tired of politics and should be allowed to move on with their normal lives.
He also took a swipe at Raila saying that the Opposition leader is full of excuses to boycott the fresh election.
“Kenyans are tired and want to move forward. If you do not want elections, step aside so that the country can move forward,” said the President.
He criticised him for waiting until more than Sh12 billion had been spent to organise the election before reaching the withdrawal.
Uhuru exuded confidence that Kenyans will rally behind him as they did in the August 8 General Election that was nullified by the Supreme Court.
“We know that we won the August 8 election fairly and that is why we are ready for the October 26election,” Uhuru pointed out.
He spoke when he addressed leaders from the coastal counties who gathered at Serani Grounds, Mombasa County.
