Jubilee vows to win all top seats in county

The National Alliance (TNA) is confident it will take all the 12 parliamentary seats in Kakamega County in next year's elections.

Speaking after a meeting at Bishop Nicholas Stam Pastoral Centre yesterday, party's county coordinator Manyala Keya said TNA aspirants had agreed to work together to popularise the outfit. The meeting brought together those planning to vie for various positions on TNA ticket.

"In 2013, we still won six seats even with the ODM wave that swept the county. And in 2017, we want to ensure we take all the top seats," said the former Lurambi MP.

He added: "We are united and we want to ensure President Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy William Ruto get support in Kakamega in their bid for a second term."

"Today's meeting will help us lay down strategies on how to win even the topmost seats in the county and we are committed to ensure this becomes to reality," Keya added.

He claimed current CORD legislators are willing to defend their seats on Jubilee ticket as he exuded confidence he will reclaim the Lurambi seat.

At least 75 aspirants for the position of Member of County Assembly, 26 parliamentary aspirants, three governorship candidates and two woman representative hopefuls attended the meeting.

Suleiman Sumba, who resigned from Governor Wycliffe Oparanya's cabinet, said he is determined to challenge his former boss. "We will not allow our people to be taken to the Opposition which has offered us nothing. We are tired of bad leadership and that is why I will vie for the governorship on a TNA ticket," he said.

County TNA chairman Desmond Shinaka said: "The writing is on the wall and those in the Opposition can sense the direction the electorate want to be taken."
