Sonko accuses Opposition leaders of insulting Uhuru

Nairobi Senator Mike Sonko

Nairobi Senator Mike Sonko has accused Opposition leaders of disrespecting President Uhuru Kenyatta through constant criticism.

Sonko said Machakos Senator Johnstone Muthama, Raila Odinga and Kalonzo Musyoka are distracting the President from his development agenda and accused them of not providing constructive criticism.

"Raila and Kalonzo have been in government for a long time and as such should be providing guidance to President Kenyatta but not to insult him," said Sonko during a funds drive at Mwanambeyu Secondary School in Kwale on Saturday.

"We in the Government are not opposed to constructive criticism. What we are opposed to is insulting the President. The presidency is an office that deserves respect of every Kenyan regardless of political party affiliation," said Sonko.

"For now, Uhuru is the President and his deputy is William Ruto and Raila is the Opposition leader," said Sonko. He claimed that CORD is scared that Jubilee is gaining support in Coast, which supported the Opposition in the 2013 polls.

Sonko refuted claims that the Jubilee government was abetting corruption and accused the Opposition of waging a propaganda campaign over graft in Government to derail the implementation of infrastructure projects, free maternity among other projects.

"If you look around, road construction is ongoing in every corner of the country. We are also working to ensure we deliver on free maternity among other pre-election promises. That's the leadership we want but not trading insults with anyone," he said.
