AG ordered to table KACC report on maize scam

House Speaker Kenneth Marende has ordered Attorney General Amos Wako to table the Kenya Anti-Corruption Commission report on the maize scandal.

This follows revelations the anti-graft agency has forwarded the report on the multi-billion-shilling scandal to the AG.

The Speaker last week ordered Internal Security Minister George Saitoti to table the report yesterday, but Prof Saitoti informed the House he received a letter from KACC indicating the report has been forwarded to the AG.

The report would shed some light on the maize importation and subsidy scheme that has implicated some Government officials in shady deals.

The matter came to the fore when The Standard on Sunday exclusively reported how President Kibaki reinstated some suspended Permanent Secretaries despite the KACC report implicating them in the scandal.

The report is said to have recommended administration action against then Special Programmes PS Mohamed Ali, then Agriculture PS Romano Kiome and Finance PS Joseph Kinyua.

Yesterday Marende said: "The minister has shared with me a letter addressed to him by KACC that the agency has forwarded the report to the AG. So he cannot table it because he does not have it," said Marende.

He called on the AG to table the report next Tuesday.
