A DCI officer has been arrested after he allegedly shot a reveller at a nightclub in Keroka town in Kisii County, on Thursday morning.

The victim is nursing a gunshot wound at the Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital where he was taken after the shooting incident.

Masaba North sub-county police commander Robert Ndambili said he visited the victim at the hospital and confirmed that indeed he had been shot with a 9mm bullet that was still lodged in the abdomen.

"I went to the hospital in the company of the sub-county DCI officer and verified the report. By good luck, by the time we were leaving the healthcare facility where the victim is getting medical attention, he had been taken to theatre where doctors will remove the bullet from his stomach," Ndambili said.

Ndambili said the officer was on duty on the night of the shooting when he passed by the nightclub before the incident happened around 1am.

According to Ndambili, the victim was accidentally shot at during a confrontation that was started by him.

"The report that was recorded by the officer who is in our custody indicated that the victim followed him to the urinals where he got hold of the officer from behind and tried to snatch his gun. While resisting the attack, a fight for the gun ensued and in the melee, one round of ammunition was discharged and accidentally hit the victim in the stomach," the police boss said.

The officer confirmed that after the shooting, the officer rushed to the police station and reported the matter.

He said they would wait for the victim to recover and stabilize so he could record a statement with them.
