Protests in Kisumu as police in pursuit of matatu driver shoot, wound three people

Protests began around 11am on May 9, as youths gathered at Central Police Station to demonstrate against the shooting.

Some of the demonstrators tried to set fire to a police vehicle, while others threw stones at the police station and destroyed windows. Police officers used tear gas to disperse the angry protesters.

Kisumu Resident's Voice chairperson and activist, Audi Ogada, said that they had identified two of the victims who were shot and hospitalised at Kisumu County referral hospital.

County Police Commander Alphonse Peters stated that they have launched an investigation into the incident.
