A member of Homa Bay County Assembly spent the second night in police cells for allegedly assaulting the assembly clerk Daniel Kaudo.

Kojwach Ward Rep Joan Ogada was arrested on Wednesday over claims of assaulting Kaudo in his office.

She allegedly collaborated with two other MCAs to commit the crime.

Ms Ogada was arraigned in Homa Bay Law Courts but police requested more time to detain her in order to complete investigations.

In an affidavit signed by the investigating officer, Justus Weduve, the prosecution said the case required proper evidence.

Weduve indicated that he was investigating the Kojwach Ward rep over assault on Kaudo, malicious damage of property and creating disturbance

He argued that police had received intelligence reports that Ogada and her accomplice were a threat to safety and security in the county assembly.

“All prosecution witnesses are staff of the county assembly hence her freedom may endanger them,” he said.

He said the clerk’s office had been broken into and several county assembly property of unknown value is missing as a result of the invasion.

“Due to the technicality of the 24-hour rule, I am unable to complete my investigations. It is in the public interest we get more time,” the affidavit read.

Homa Bay Senior Principal Magistrate Thomas Obutu ordered that Ms Ogada be arraigned in court yesterday to take the plea.
