Kisumu, Kenya: A senior sergeant with the Administration Police’s firearm is alleged to have been used in a series of crimes in Kisumu County.

The firearm allegedly stolen a week ago was used in three incidences that left two people dead and one critically injured in a span of one week.

Sergeant Darius Mwirigi was arraigned in court on Tuesday and charged with losing a Ceska Pistol and 15 rounds of ammunition on the night of June 8 and 9 at RAJ guest house in Kisumu.

He also faced the count of failing to secure the firearm issued to him for purposes of escort duties.

The officer, who works as escort to a top government official, is said to have come to spend the night in Kisumu after accompanying his boss to Eldoret.

The police suspect that the officer was in the company of a woman on the night the firearm disappeared.

Kisumu District Commissioner, Willy Cheboi said the pistol must have been used in the crimes that took place in the past one week. Cheboi said some cartridges found in the scene of crime resembled the ones from the lost fire arm.

Cheboi warned police officers not to carry their weapons to entertainment joints and instead deposit them at the police station for safe keeping so that such incidences do not happen again.
