How Pheobe 'chewed' my hard-earned Sh620,000: Kisumu shares painful loss

In a video posted in social media a few days ago, Silingi Mulumbi is seen shouting and crying as he narrates his predicament.

“This woman decides to eat my money when it’s only two months until her graduation. She ate (sic) my money, she ate Sh620,000. In 2019, 2020, 2021 and 2022. Phoebe ate my money.”

The post left social media users with mixed reactions, with some advising men to avoid paying school fees for girlfriends.

The Standard caught up with Mulumbi, who has since clarified that he had lived with Phoebe Okombo as his wife since 2019.

“I want to thank my friends and fellow teachers who have stood with me for a week,” he said, adding that his relationship with Phoebe started in 2019 while they lived at Riat in Kisumu county.

“After staying with Phoebe for some time, my mother-in-law called on me and wanted to know the progress of our relationship,” he said.

“I told her I was ready to settle down with Phoebe. I catered for everything; school fees, rent and other bills. I took care of her as my wife. We had the blessings of our parents.”

Mulumbi said on May 13, 2019, they had a daughter. Unfortunately, their second baby died a year after birth.

“She (their daughter) was reporting back to school. I paid all the expenses and school fees as it is my responsibility,” he said.

He said Phoebe’s mother later sent someone to ask why he had stopped paying for the little girl’s school expenses.

“I was shocked because I had all the transactions on rent payment, school fees and even pocket money.”

“Phoebe was no longer communicating with me. She took away our child and refused to tell me where they had moved to. I was later informed that my daughter had not reported to school for some time.”

He said Phoebe started giving him excuses on why she ran away and why his daughter had stopped going to school.

“I was receiving texts from different numbers telling me how my wife was misbehaving. She had changed her phone number and I could no longer reach her.” He says he is willing to have a conversation with Phoebe. “I will not revenge but wish her well wherever she is with my daughter.”
