[Phares Mutembei, Standard] Insurance and wealth creation themes dominated the Kenya National Music Festival as students continued to urge parents, teachers, schools, and the audience to protect themselves from an uncertain future. This happened as the Kenya National Music Festival entered the third day with an impressive show of talent. At Meru Teacher College, under the Junior Secondary School's elocution class, Little Friends Academy from Naivasha clinched the top spot with a verse titled "Under the Roof". This year's event, themed 'Enhancing the Creative Economy through Artistic Expression for Sustainable Development,' complements Equity's theme of 'Securing Lives Transformed and Wealth Created through Life, Health, and Wealth Insurance.' Little Friends Academy trainer, Amos Barasa, was all smiles following the breathtaking show. "Today, we won an Equity category. As for how many are proceeding to State House, we have one team going to the gala, with a different class. We have received an invitation for them to perform at the gala on August 13," he said. PCEA Kagema was second with their song dubbed "The Fluffy Wing" performance. Their trainer, Joram Ojwang, heaped praise on the children's performance in the also Equity-sponsored poem. Under the guidance of their trainers, the learners delivered a powerful performance marked by clear diction, emotive expression, and synchronized movement. The poem's message centered on financial literacy, empowerment, and social transformation, and it was brought to life through vivid imagery and confident stage presence. The team's ability to blend artistic elements with educational content resonated strongly with the adjudicators, showcasing not only talent but also a strong grasp of the poem's objectives. "The Fluffy Wings" is a powerful poem that celebrates the life-changing impact of Equity Group's insurance and financial services. Using the metaphor of "fluffy wings," the poem paints Equity as a nurturing and protective force that shelters individuals, families, and communities from life's uncertainties, including illness, accidents, disability, and financial hardship. The poem highlights the benefits of health insurance, education cover, property protection, and savings plans, showing how Equity transforms lives with compassion and reliability. It ends with a passionate appeal to the audience to join and trust in the "fluffy wings" of Equity - a true friend, protector, and companion. Lukenya Academy's "Arise and Flap Your Wings" secured an impressive third place. [Phares Mutembei, Standard] Their trainer, Boniface Ochieng Ochieng, scripted for Lukenya Academy. "We qualified for the nationals with our Equity-sponsored script in the elocution category. The script I wrote for them was titled "Arise and Flap Your Wings." The unique aspect of this script, and why it stood out, is that I typically draw ideas from my learners through auditions. The Equity-sponsored theme encouraged creativity, focusing on key areas where Equity is involved, such as insurance, education, and healthcare, to help Kenyans grow," he said. Other schools that performed under this class were Rapogi Girls (Nyanza), Bamburi School (Coast), The Stepping Stones (Coast), and Moi Forces Academy of Nairobi. In the often-intense world of the festival, where thousands of young performers vie for top honours, the path to success is typically paved with rigorous practice, vocal precision, and flawless delivery. But for Ochieng, a scriptwriter and trainer at Lukenya Academy, the secret to unlocking truly captivating performances lies not just in skill, but in the raw, authentic emotions of his students. "My unique approach," Ochieng explains, "is rooted in a psychological perspective. I ask students to try writing their own scripts initially, and when we conduct auditions, I listen to what they speak about."
