Government spokesperson Isaac Mwaura defends government oil deal amid criticisms

Government spokesperson Isaac Mwaura has responded to critics of the Government-to-Government oil deal saying fuel prices in the country will reduce soon.

This comes as Kenyans express their dissatisfaction with the pricing of fuel in the country compared to other nations in the region.

In a statement released on Thursday, November 23 evening, Mwaura says that the state made a public oil agreement whose documentation is accessible to the public.

According to Mwaura, in March this year, the government announced a tender where seven companies expressed interest and weeks later, the state settled on three companies.

The deal was signed and its details were taken for scrutiny in parliament.

The spokesperson has also asked Kenyans to shun from comparing the retail fuel prices in Kenya to other countries in the region. He argues that by eliminating middlemen in the oil business, the government will soon stabilize fuel prices in the country.

However, he has not disclosed when the fuel prices will be reduced.
