The main suspect in the murder will of Nairobi Hospital's acting Finance Director Eric Maigo will remain in custody for seven more days to allow the police to conclude investigations.

A court in Nairobi adjourned the case after the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI),  on Wednesday, October 18, 2023, applied for more time to hold the suspect.

The woman was expected to take a plea on Wednesday when the Investigating officer said they were not done with their probe.

The prosecution said the DCI is yet to finalize an analysis of the stained clothes that were found in the suspect’s house.

The suspect is accused of masterminding the murder of Maigo whose body was found in his house in Nairobi with 25 stab wounds.

Further, an analysis of the CCTV footage that was retrieved from the area of the incident has not been completed, the court heard.

The suspect was captured on CCTV escaping from the scene of Maigo's murder on the morning of October 15, in the Jamhuri area of Nairobi.

Another bone of contention was the suspect’s age, which is yet to be established, conclusively.

A lawyer claimed the suspect was still underage based on her birth certificate which indicates that she was born in 2006.

However, the prosecution team differed insisting that the suspect was fit to stand trial as she is an adult.

On October 4, an age and mental assessment conducted at the Mathari Hospital in Nairobi confirmed that the suspect was a Kenyan adult of sound mind and was fit to stand trial.

The suspect has been in custody since her arrest, with the court granting orders for her to be detained for 21 days on September 27, pending the conclusion of investigations.

The woman was arrested at Olympic in Kibra, Nairobi, by detectives, working with residents who provided intelligence on her whereabouts.

The case will be mentioned on October 25.
