President Uhuru appoints parastatal heads in fresh changes

President Uhuru Kenyatta has appointed Maseno VC Prof Julius Nyabundi to chair the Kenya National Examinations Council board for four years, with effect from July 5.

The Head of State also re-appointed Stephen Kuria as chairperson of Mineral Rights and Eric Mungai as chairperson of the National Environmental Management Authority.

Joannem Yelbert has been appointed chairperson of the Kenya Tourism Board while Nelson Ndirangu has been re-appointed chairperson of the Competition Authority.

Other chairpersons appointed include Mohammed Amin (Insurance Regulatory Authority), Njoroge Mutugi (New Kenya Co-operative Creameries Limited Board) and Hassan Reche (New Kenya Planters Cooperative Union).

Hellen Nangithia has been appointed to the board of the Nyayo Tea Zones Development Corporation, Njoroge Kagwe (Pest Control Products Board) and Feisal Abass (Privatisation Commission).

Former Knec CEO Mercy Karogo has been appointed chairperson of the Kenya Education Management Institute (Kemi) while Elijah Njore was appointed to chair the Water Services Regulatory Board for three years.

In addition, Education CS George Magoha made several appointments to the chairpersons of universities.

Prof Miriam Were is the new University of Nairobi council chairperson for a period of three years. Shem Wandiga will chair the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga University of Science and Technology Council.

Prof Isaac Mbeche is now the chairperson of the Council of Taita Taveta University for three years as Omar Farah was appointed the chairperson of the Council of the Technical University of Kenya.

Bernadette Mungai is the chairperson of the Council of Kaimosi Friends University College and Margaret Gikuhi was appointed chairperson of the Council of Garissa University.

Machakos University chairperson of the Council is Christipher Gatama for a period of three years. Magoha has also reappointed Dr Timothy Kiruhi as the Chairperson of the Council of Tharaka University College.

Other appointments include Brig (Rtd.) Stephen Njung’e Kihu; chairperson of the Governing Council of the Kenya Water Institute, for 20 months, John Wahome to be a member of the Board of Kenya Broadcasting Corporation (KBC) and Gregory Masika to be the Registrar of the Valuers Registration Board.

Maj Rtd Iltasayon Neepe has been appointed a member of the Board of the Kenya Airports Authority as Dennis Aroka was appointed to be a member of the Board of the Kenya Railways Corporation.
