Three injured as Muslim groups fight

By Leonard Korir

Three people were seriously injured after two rival Muslim groups clashed at Kilgoris Mosque.

A worship session turned chaotic when an armed gang calling itself ‘old native’ group stormed the mosque and disrupted 1pm prayers attended by rivals ‘new immigrant’ group.

There was confusion as worshippers took to their heels when the clash turned ugly. The injured were rushed to Trans Mara District Hospital.

Tussle over land

Area police boss Johnston Ipara said four people were arrested.

“Police swiftly responded and saved the situation, which could have turned bloody. They arrested four culprits,” said Ipara.

He noted the incident arose from a tussle over land.

The ‘old native’ group was reportedly angered by their rival’s move to construct a mosque on the same parcel of land.
