Discussions on BBI to take centrestage at the People Dialogue Festival

Conversations surrounding the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) are expected to take centrestage at the second edition of the People Dialogue Festival, which begins today in Nairobi.

Like last year’s forum, which was attended by over 1,500 Kenyans, this year’s edition anticipates a huge attendance, including political leaders like Raila Odinga, Musalia Mudavadi, Kalonzo Musyoka, governors, senators and members of parliament.

“This year, the Building Bridges Initiative Steering Committee will participate in making the dialogue even more real, seeing as BBI is currently the talk of town,” noted Franklin Mukwanja (pictured), the executive director of Centre for Multiparty Democracy (CMD).

Started last year by the CMD-Kenya, the People Dialogue Festival presents a unique opportunity for political parties, politicians, policy makers and those in civil society.

All are invited to engage in dialogue and unite on important issues such as strengthening multiparty democracy, promoting social justice, respect for human rights and fundamental freedoms.

“There is a big disconnect between the leaders and the led. We need to break the barrier. That is what People Dialogue is all about,” said Mukwanja.

The forum is a replication of Sweden’s Politicians’ Week and Denmark’s People’s Meeting.
