Senator slams KPC appointment, vows to challenge it in court

Narok Senator Ledama Olekina has dismissed the appointment of Dr Macharia Irungu as the Kenya Pipeline Company (KPC) managing director and vowed to challenge it in court.

Olekina (pictured) said the appointment was a clear indication that the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) has failed from the onset to address inclusivity and will never help heal the country.

He said it was hypocritical for leaders to sit at some corner and shout about inclusivity when the same leaders are practising tribalism in dishing out state jobs.

“Kenya is not for one tribe, we must learn to share the little we have or else it will never be business as usual,” he said.

Olekina said he will move to court next week to challenge the appointment, saying it was not on merit and should be revoked.

The ODM senator has described Jubilee as the worst government in Kenya’s history, adding that it was high time the youth woke up to reclaim their country.

“Leaders were at Bomas of Kenya in Nairobi talking about BBI and the new beginning but with 48 hours, skewed appointments are happening in State parastatals, it is ridiculous,” the angry senator said.

“Even before a sheep empty its urine, tribalism continues in Kenya!! This is the worst form of Government in the history of Kenya. We will proceed to court to challenge this tribalism! Kwani sisi ni Guest in this country? Nonsense.”

The ODM senator said the appointment of Dr Irungu was flawed and tribal therefore he is ready to challenge it.

“You cannot expect any other outcome from a parastatal where five of the nine board members are from one tribe, this was handpicking,” he said.

PR stunt

The senator dismissed the BBI report as a PR stunt meant to benefit a few families as majority of Kenyans suffer.

He said BBI is nonsense if it cannot address the issue such as blatant tribalism and skewed appointments in government.

“This hypocrisy of inclusivity in Kenya must end! Kenyans wake up! How do you justify filling all positions with one tribe? Kenya Power new MD is Kikuyu, KenGen MD is Kikuyu, NTSA is Kikuyu, REA is Kikuyu the board of KPC has 4 Kikuyus out of 9 members! And you talk of BBI?” he posed.

Olekina who spoke to Standard Digital on phone said similar bias was witnessed at Kenya Power where a competent acting managing director was allegedly removed and replaced by some clueless individual in the name of a CEO.

“I sit in energy committee and I know what happened at Kenya Power when they removed a competent Jared Othieno and replaced him with a clueless Benard Ngugi,” he said, adding that Kenyans must now say no to tribalism.

Dr Irungu was appointed yesterday by Mining and Petroleum Cabinet Secretary John Munyes and will replace acting MD Hudson Andambi.
