NAIROBI, KENYA: Marking of the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) papers is scheduled to start Tuesday.

Preparations were completed Monday in readiness for the exercise which kicks off at various marking centres across the country.

A spot check by The Standard revealed that activities were going on as scheduled at Moi Girls School Nairobi, Buru Buru Girls, State House Girls and Moi Forces Academy, Nairobi.

Other centres where marking will take place include Alliance Girls, Mangu High, Loreto Girls Limuru, Maryhill School, Moi High School Kabarak, Mukumu Girls, Kijabe Boys and Maseno School.

Kenya National Examination Council (Knec) Secretary General Paul Wasanga noted that marking will be done in 25 centres across the country, with Nairobi County taking the lion’s share of the centres.

HARDLINE STAND

“KCSE marking started with briefing of all examiners by senior Knec officers in their respective marking centres yesterday. Examiners will go into co-ordination and live marking of candidates’ scripts with immediate effect,” said Wasanga.

The Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers, however, maintained its hardline stand on the on marking exercise. Kuppet Deputy Secretary General Moses Nthurima said they had instructed all their members not to mark any papers until the issues raised with Knec are resolved.

Nthurima said the demands are genuine and vowed to use all means to get their grievances addressed. Kuppet wants heads of institutions used as marking centres to be paid Sh1,000 per day.
